Its ceiling appears when work becomes long-running, dense, and consequential: task-metered pricing compounds with step count, run history is guaranteed for only 60 days, agents lack persistent memory, and all data lives on US servers. Brahmalabs is built for that territory — durable runs that wait days on approvals, EU residency by default, sandboxed execution with egress control — but it is a young product with a far smaller integration catalog and a higher entry price.

## Every automation platform has a ceiling

You already know Zapier. Human-in-the-loop is native. Zapier's [Human in the Loop app](https://help.zapier.com/hc/en-us/articles/38731463206029-Request-approval-to-keep-your-workflow-running-with-Human-in-the-Loop) pauses a Zap run so reviewers can approve, decline, or edit submitted data before the workflow continues, with notifications by email or Slack. The core platform's compliance posture is mature. Note the boundary of that claim: Zapier's own compliance page does not list ISO 27001, PCI, or HIPAA, and the attestations cover the core platform — the Agents product's status is covered below.

## Axis one: what the meter measures

Zapier meters tasks. [Each successful action step consumes one task](https://help.zapier.com/hc/en-us/articles/8496196837261-How-is-task-usage-measured-in-Zapier); triggers and utility steps are free. The mechanism to notice: the meter measures step density, not outcomes. A five-step Zap burns four tasks per run, so 750 Professional tasks cover roughly 187 runs of it per month. As workflows grow denser — which is exactly what happens when you add branching, enrichment, and AI steps — the same business outcome costs more tasks.

The AI meters stack on top. Those overage rates change for billing cycles on or after July 15, 2026, so any per-task number you read today is volatile. A Zap executes per event and moves on. For event-driven glue, none of this matters. It starts to matter when a workflow's natural lifespan exceeds a request: a procurement flow that waits three days for a director's sign-off, an incident review that pauses mid-run for legal, a pipeline that must survive a deploy without losing position.
